Emergency Dentistry
Get the urgent dental care you need when you need it. We can help with toothache, broken teeth, swelling and other dental problems that cannot wait.

why act early
Why dental pain should not be left
Toothache, swelling or a broken tooth rarely settles without treatment. Pain usually means the nerve inside a tooth is inflamed or an infection has developed. Painkillers can ease the symptoms, but they do not treat the cause. An untreated infection can spread to the surrounding gum and bone, and a lost filling or small crack leaves a tooth open to decay and further damage.
Seeing a dentist promptly often means simpler treatment, lower costs and a better chance of saving the tooth. At Coast Dental Health in Portsmouth, emergency appointments are available during our normal opening hours, whether or not you are registered with us.

FAQS
Your questions, answered.
Can I be seen if I am not registered with you?
Yes. Emergency appointments are open to non-registered patients during our normal opening hours. Our out-of-hours emergency service is for registered patients only.
How much does an emergency dentist appointment cost?
The fee is £45 for registered patients and £70 for non-registered patients. This covers a thorough assessment and any necessary X-rays. Treatment is charged separately, and we confirm the cost before going ahead.
What should I do if a tooth is knocked out?
Hold the tooth by the crown and avoid touching the root. If it is an adult tooth and it is clean, place it back in the socket and bite gently on a clean cloth. If that is not possible, keep it in milk and call us straight away.
