Emergency Dentistry

Get the urgent dental care you need when you need it. We can help with toothache, broken teeth, swelling and other dental problems that cannot wait.

why act early

Why dental pain should not be left

Toothache, swelling or a broken tooth rarely settles without treatment. Pain usually means the nerve inside a tooth is inflamed or an infection has developed. Painkillers can ease the symptoms, but they do not treat the cause. An untreated infection can spread to the surrounding gum and bone, and a lost filling or small crack leaves a tooth open to decay and further damage.

Seeing a dentist promptly often means simpler treatment, lower costs and a better chance of saving the tooth. At Coast Dental Health in Portsmouth, emergency appointments are available during our normal opening hours, whether or not you are registered with us.

is it right for you?

Your options for replacing teeth.

Pain and Infection

Toothache, sensitivity, swelling, abscesses and gum infections. We identify the cause, relieve the pain and treat the infection.

Damaged Teeth

Chipped, broken or knocked-out teeth. A knocked-out adult tooth has the best chance of being saved if you are seen within an hour.

Lost or broken dental work

Fillings, crowns, bridges, veneers, composite bonding, implants and dentures. Our on-site dental laboratory can carry out same-day denture repairs.

*Not every option suits every patient. We will explain which are appropriate for you, and why.

How it works

02

Assessment

Your dentist examines the area, takes digital X-rays where needed and identifies the cause of the problem. We then explain the next steps.

03

Treatment

We explain what we have found, your options and the costs. Treatment may include a filling, recementing a crown, bridge or veneer, or a simple extraction.

04

Follow-up

If you need more complex care, we relieve your symptoms and stabilise the tooth first, then arrange further treatment.

To book an emergency dental appointment, call 023 9217 0201. Emergency appointments cost £45 for registered patients and £70 for non-registered patients.

FAQS

Your questions, answered.

Yes. Emergency appointments are open to non-registered patients during our normal opening hours. Our out-of-hours emergency service is for registered patients only.

The fee is £45 for registered patients and £70 for non-registered patients. This covers a thorough assessment and any necessary X-rays. Treatment is charged separately, and we confirm the cost before going ahead.

Hold the tooth by the crown and avoid touching the root. If it is an adult tooth and it is clean, place it back in the socket and bite gently on a clean cloth. If that is not possible, keep it in milk and call us straight away.
