Missing Teeth
If you’re missing one or more teeth, there are several options to restore your smile and make eating and speaking easier.

WHY a missing tooth should be replaced
A gap affects more than the look of your smile.
Teeth are lost for several reasons. Gum disease is the most common cause in adults, followed by decay and injury. Whatever the cause, the effects can develop slowly, which is why some people leave a gap untreated. When a tooth is lost, the teeth beside it can tilt into the space and the tooth opposite can move out of line. This can alter your bite and create areas that are harder to clean, increasing the risk of decay and gum disease.
The jawbone beneath the gap also begins to shrink when it no longer supports a tooth. Replacing a missing tooth can therefore protect your remaining teeth and long-term oral health, as well as restoring your smile. At Coast Dental Health in Portsmouth, we explain your options clearly so you can choose the treatment that suits your needs and budget.

FAQS
Your questions, answered.
Do I need to replace a back tooth nobody can see?
In most cases, yes. Back teeth do most of the chewing, and the movement of nearby teeth and loss of bone happen whether or not the gap is visible.
My tooth was lost years ago. Is it too late?
Rarely. Bone levels may have changed, which can affect the options available, so an assessment is the right place to start.
Is dental implant treatment painful?
Implants are placed under local anaesthetic. Most patients report mild soreness for a few days afterwards.
